When it comes to business, Shane Radbone knows what he is talking about. He established EFM, Australia’s biggest Executive Fitness at age 20. From just a single operation with only one client, it branched out to 25 franchises nationwide with more than 3,500 clients. He also was the CEO of Wendy’s Supa Sundaes as well as VIP Home Services. Here he shares some of his valuable business tips for new business owners who are looking for success in life and in their careers:
- Learn to listen. When it comes to networking or doing a sales pitch, business owners are so wrapped up in telling the other party what they have to offer that they forget that listening is just as important. When you open your ears and find time to really listen, you can pick up on angles that you previously did not see before. This allows you to repackage your products or to fit the needs of your client. It is important that you really listen to what your target market wants.
- You must not only plan but you must do. Learn to effectively manage your business in the middle of the chaos around you. It is good to plan but no one can completely and accurately predict the climate of any business. Business owners must be calm while maneuvering their businesses around and out of any potholes that it may encounter along the way.
- Never rest on your laurels. If a business is going well, it is easy to lie back for a bit and be complacent. Do not fall into this trap. Find ways to shake back the old spirit in you to keep you in the game and perhaps even on top of it. Whether it is an article about your competitor or a new goal that you have set, you must devise ways to keep yourself invigorated about your business.
- Invest in the customers who are loyal and who engage in word of mouth advertising. This will pay off in the long run as these customers do free advertising for you. You can give them a token of your appreciation or a discounted coupon in case you find them writing about your products in their blogs. Make them feel appreciated and they will be sure to keep doing what they do.
