The Differrence Between Good Leaders And Great Leaders: A Shane Radbone Guide

Leadership is one of the traits that can ensure success for you in whatever endeavor. They say that good leaders are born, not made, but Shane Radbone would like to say otherwise. Shane Radbone 7-Eleven CEO, built his own business from the ground up at age 20, and has been a successful football player in his younger years. He has received several awards for his contributions to business and the arts and is also heading several community service organizations. He believes that leadership can be learned by anybody looking for success in whatever endeavor they choose. See below his tips for leadership:

  1. Give feedback to your team. It is important that your team is clued in about their performance. They must know if they are doing well, are on the right track and what areas are in need of improvement. By reviewing the work of your team, you are keeping them focused and motivated to do better and to turn in better work.
  2. Thank, praise and reward constantly. Saying thank you is only two words, very simple to say yet means a lot and can impact much. Praising team members for an excellent work done is a great motivational tool for them to keep improving on the quality of their work and not to submit substandard work. Rewarding is also a good way to ensure that quality work will be repeated in the future.
  3. Always be available to them. Whether it may be about work, or to discuss things outside of work, let your team know that you are there for them. Through email, through briefings or meetings, always keep yourself accessible and open. This encourages a healthy open environment where team members are not afraid to approach you with questions and even suggestions to improve on any work system.
  4. Pass over some of your power. Nothing says trust to your team more than handing over more responsibility to them. This shows that you are willing to let them do more work and show more of their capabilities. Another good thing about delegating tasks if that you end up with less work. It’s a win-win situation.
